What the sign means
Al-Uwairjan
Sadu-inspired machine embroidery. An original design drawn by us; not Sadu weaving and not a handwoven piece.
Motif meaning (Al-Uwairjan): A chain of red and white triangles, said to mean loftiness; some say dunes, piles of dates or birds' wings. Sources: Al-Najada, Folk Culture; Canavan, 2011; Encyclopedia of Crafts.
With respect for Al Sadu and the Bedouin women who have kept this craft alive across generations. Read more about the motifs on our Signs page.
The embroidery designs shown are original designs prepared by Sadu by miniblank, inspired by traditional Sadu motifs. They are not Sadu weaving and not handwoven products. The brand claims no right in the traditional Sadu motifs themselves; its rights are limited to its own designs. The embroidery is machine-made.
Al-Uwairjan, Sadu's familiar chain of triangles, on a rib-knit beanie. For the cold that comes back on Ramadan nights.
Material and embroidery
Rib knit, short fisherman fit. The Al-Uwairjan design, machine embroidered on the front of the beanie in standard embroidery threads close to its own colours, within an area of about 13 × 4 cm.
